Effect profile
Farnesene in the cannabis context
Farnesene is a plant signaling molecule with a notable immune profile: it suppresses the activation of human neutrophils, the first line of immune defense, and so steps directly into inflammatory processes (score 1.0 for inflammation, mechanism independent of the matrix). Farnesene is found in apple wax, hop oil and many fruit peels.
The psyche is not where farnesene works: anxiety, sleep, mood, focus and activation are not part of the profile. What it does show are striking neuroprotection signals in primary nerve cells and an Alzheimer's cell model.
In cannabis, farnesene is rarely dominant. You recognize it by the green, fruity, apple-like aroma. Higher farnesene levels are mainly an analytical marker and a sign of a side profile weighted toward inflammation and neuroprotection.
Pharmacological notes: Neuroprotective effects in primary nerve cells and an Alzheimer's cell model.
