Fenchol

Camphor-like, fennel

Fenchol is a monoterpene alcohol found in many medical cannabis strains. Aroma: camphor-like, fennel. In Tier-A literature it is most strongly associated with inflammation. terpen.cloud lists every currently available pharmacy strain high in fenchol.

Effect profile

Fenchol in the cannabis context

Fenchol is the research candidate with the most interesting side profile. Its most striking feature is a mechanistically precise neuroprotective effect: fenchol activates the FFAR2 signaling pathway and speeds up the breakdown of amyloid-β plaques, a mechanism relevant to Alzheimer's research. Fenchol is found in basil and fennel, and shows up in cannabis as a minor terpene.

In the classic recommender profile, fenchol plays a supporting role (score 0.5 for inflammation). Anxiety relief, sleep, mood, focus, pain and activation are not its center of gravity. Fenchol is a specialist with an unusual mechanism.

In cannabis, fenchol is rarely dominant. You recognize it by the camphor-minty aroma with a light basil note. Higher fenchol levels are a chemical signal of certain genetics more than of a primary effect profile.

Pharmacological notes: Antimicrobial effects in the essential-oil context, neuroprotection via the FFAR2 signaling pathway and amyloid-β clearance in an Alzheimer's model.
